Collector guide

Marque registries & factory records

For many collector cars, enthusiast registries and factory records are some of the best ways to confirm what a car is and where it's been.

Coming soon, where available: we plan to add registry and production-record cross-checks to reports where we can secure reliable access. Vin Facts Check has no registry partnerships today and is not affiliated with any registry, club or manufacturer.

What is a marque registry?

A marque registry is a record of surviving examples of a particular make or model, usually kept by an owner club, an enthusiast group or a dedicated historian. Registries may record chassis numbers, original specifications, colors, ownership history and known events such as restorations or accidents. Their scope, accuracy and access rules vary widely.

How to use registry information

Pre-1981 vehicles

Older vehicles often use shorter, manufacturer-specific chassis numbers instead of the standard 17-character VIN. Our reports don't support those yet (coming soon), so registries, factory records and specialist inspections are especially important for older classics.

Start with the facts

Run a history report on the exact VIN, then work through the checklist with the seller's documents in hand.
