Military vehiclesEx-military vehicle title check
For surplus HMMWVs, military Jeeps, trucks and trailers: enter a VIN, military serial or registration number, or a state-assigned VIN.
What the title & registration check covers
- State title and registration status, where the vehicle has been titled by a state
- Title brands such as salvage, rebuilt or off-highway, where reported
- Theft and total-loss records, where available
What it does not cover
This is a title and registration check only. It does not include military service history, unit assignment, maintenance or depot records, or combat history. Vehicles in military service aren't state-titled, so title history usually starts when the vehicle is first titled by a state after surplus sale.
What we can and can't check. If the vehicle has a 17-character VIN, it can be searched in the national title database (NMVTIS) like any other vehicle, but only from the point a state first titled it. Military serial and registration numbers, and most pre-1981 military vehicles, aren't in that database. For those we show you where the records are and take no payment.
Paperwork to ask for
- SF 97, the U.S. Government Certificate to Obtain Title to a Vehicle. Surplus HMMWVs sold through GovPlanet may come with an SF 97 marked for off-road use.
- The auction bill of sale and, for HMMWVs, proof of End-Use Certificate clearance
- Any state title already issued, including off-highway titles
- Your own state DMV's rules. Some states won't title or register ex-military HMMWVs for road use at all.
